Online Therapy in North Carolina and Colorado

Joy is Waiting for You on the Other Side of this Challenge.

Online counseling is an alternative to traditional in-office therapy.  Online counseling is a convenient and confidential form of therapy. If you have a computer or phone and an internet connection can receive therapy from the comfort of your home or office. I provide online counseling services to treat anxiety, stress, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

Hey! I’m Sam.

I’m a Cognitive Behavior Therapist, and I specialize in working with ambitious people with anxiety. I provide online counseling services to treat stress, anxiety, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

Before this year, 100% of my practice was in person. I offered online sessions to clients here and there, but I never considered making it a bigger part of my practice.

I’ve really enjoyed the new challenge of meeting with people online, and I’ve found that it’s enhanced the work that I do with clients. You can easily squeeze meetings in before and after work or during your lunch break. There’s no travel time, and I’ve found that people are much more comfortable in their own spaces. It’s really nice to relax in your back garden or sit on your own couch for therapy. Because therapy is virtual, you have greater access to specialists because you aren’t limited by location.

If you’ve been “waiting to find the time” or “waiting for things to die down or go back to normal”, I’d love to work with you. You might find (like me) that online therapy is really fun and effective.

My Approach

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is an evidence based form of therapy designed to quickly treat symptoms of anxiety by helping you change the way that you think so that you can change how you feel and how you act.

When I use CBT to treat any challenge, I start by helping you identify the thoughts and actions that lead to your problem and then I teach you how to change your thoughts and actions so that you can feel better again.

My approach is very collaborative and fun. I’m really open to feedback, and my number one objective is helping you reach your goals as quickly as possible.

How it Works

Online Therapy in Raleigh

Step 1

To get started, you will schedule an initial consultation. We’ll “meet” over the phone to discuss your current challenges and goals for therapy.

If we’re a good fit, I’ll send you the initial paperwork, and easy instructions on how to access the online counseling platform (Basically, you just have to click one link and type in your name!).

Step 2

If we choose to work together, we’ll schedule an initial appointment.

In this session, I’ll ask a lot of questions to learn more about your current challenges and your goals for therapy. During this appointment, we’ll make a plan to tackle your anxiety together.

You can meet with me using your phone, tablet, laptop or desktop. No need for any fancy equipment or special programs!

Just like in person therapy, We’ll meet weekly for 55 minute sessions. We’ll review your progress from the previous week, set an agenda, and wrap up with a goal for the next week.

Frequently Asked Questions

Therapy is a specialized service. Is online therapy even effective?
Research shows that online counseling is just as effective as in-person therapy. You’ll receive the same guidance and support as my clients who are able to meet with me in the office. We’ll work together to develop and practice strategies that address your particular challenges. I’ll support you in re-starting hobbies, connecting with friends, or doing other things that you once enjoyed. I’ll help you to start to think differently about yourself, your symptoms, and the world around you.

I’m OK with meeting online, but I’m concerned about privacy?
Because many of us are never truly “alone” these days, privacy for therapy may feel challenging. Most of my clients meet me in a private room in their home or office. If privacy is an issue in these spaces, you can get creative and meet in your closet, bathroom, car, or park. Many of my clients with children will enlist the support of a partner for additional privacy or institute “quiet time” where kids use headphones and stay in one room. Online therapy is very flexible, and I’m happy to help you troubleshoot any challenges.

I’m new to therapy. What’s it really like?
Counseling sessions typically last 50-55 minutes. Sessions usually begin by providing information about the previous week and setting a goal or an intention for the session. Then, we will work together to develop solutions to the problems that brought you into therapy. We will close the session by summarizing what was discussed and assigning tasks for you to work on between sessions.

How often will we meet and how long will I be in therapy?
This answer depends largely on what type of challenges you are facing and how long you have been struggling before seeking support. Typically, clients see the most success when they meet with me weekly. Clients often feel better after 8-12 sessions. Therapy may be shorter if symptoms are mild or longer for more complex issues.

Do I have to talk about my childhood? I’m really nervous to open up that can of worms! We can talk about your past if you want to, but it’s not necessary to start feeling better. I believe that we can tackle your anxiety in stages. You can do a lot by focusing solely on concerns that are in the present.

When you’ve learned how to process your feelings and take care of yourself when you’re feeling overwhelmed, you may feel more comfortable diving into your past. However, you can live a life free of anxiety without delving into your history—- it’s honestly up to you!
